Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most about how LegitAfrica works.
What is LegitAfrica?
LegitAfrica is a free business review platform for African markets, currently covering Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. It helps consumers find trustworthy businesses and helps businesses build credibility through genuine, verified customer reviews.
Is it free to use?
Reading and writing reviews on LegitAfrica is free for consumers. Businesses can also claim and manage their free profile at no cost.
How do you know a review is genuine?
Every new review is automatically screened for signs of fraud — things like a brand-new account, a burst of reviews from the same connection in a short time, or wording that doesn't match the star rating. Reviews that look suspicious are held for a human moderator to check before they go live. On top of that, an AI content check screens for fake, incentivised, spam, or offensive wording.
Can a business pay to have a bad review removed?
No, at any time, for any reason. Reviews are only ever removed for breaching our terms (fake, spam, offensive, etc.) or through the dispute process below — never because a business paid for it.
What happens if a business disputes my review?
The business can ask our moderation team to look into it. If it's a genuine dispute, we may ask you to provide proof of purchase — a receipt, invoice, or order confirmation — within a set number of days. Your review stays visible while we investigate.
Can I edit a review after posting it?
Yes, for 30 minutes after posting, to fix typos or add detail. After that, the original text is locked to keep the review history honest, but you can always add a dated update — for example if the business later resolves your issue.
What does the "Verified" badge on a business mean?
A business gets the Verified badge after it claims its profile and passes our KYC (know-your-customer) check — providing a business registration number and supporting documents, like a certificate of incorporation, which our team reviews.
How do I claim my business?
Search for your business, open its profile, and start a claim with your work email and role. Once approved, you can respond to reviews; completing verification (KYC) also gets you the Verified badge.
What if my business isn't listed yet?
Anyone can add a business that isn't yet on the platform. Once it's listed, the actual owner can claim it through the process above.
How do I report a fake or abusive review?
Every review has a "Report" option. Our moderation team reviews every report — reported reviews stay visible while we look into it, unless they clearly break the rules.
Which countries does LegitAfrica cover?
Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa today, with more African markets planned as the platform grows.
How do I delete my account?
From your account settings, you can permanently delete your account at any time. Your personal details are scrubbed immediately; your reviews stay (re-attributed to "Former user") so the ratings other people rely on aren't distorted. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
